‘Learn, aspire, be’ says the GEMS World Academy motto. What an exciting goal for each and every student of our school. We are striving to educate inspired and inspiring individuals. Service does this through collaboration and selfless action.
We are proud of the great initiatives and projects we have seen since the start of the school year by our students. Here are just some examples of the many projects that teach our students to be caring and to understand how they can impact locally and globally.
Grade 6 visited “Le Pacific”, the neighbouring elderly home where they sang Christmas Carols. They also exchanged letters with an orphanage in Nepal and fundraised to offer them toys at Christmas time.
Grade 7 collected toys for “La Jouetterie”, an organisation distributing toys for under-privileged children in Geneva as well as for the Fondation Theodora.
Grade 8 hosted a bake sale and sold ornaments at our Winter Market to raise awareness and funds for their World Wildlife Foundation project in order to understand the importance of wildlife to the planet and how to have an impact as a group.
In addition, they and Grade 9 worked together to raise money for Future Sense, a charity in Tanzania where our former Sports teacher was volunteering.
Grade 9 hosted a Mexican-Drama fusion lunch for parents and staff where they served delicious dishes prepared in the morning in the school kitchen and performed monologues they had written in Performing Arts.
Gingerbread houses were made for a raffle and the money raised sent to Medair for their efforts in emergency relief and recovery around the world.
Finally, a basketball tournament organised by our Diploma students to support the English Speaking Cancer Association raised money and awareness in the community.
