KiddieLand is an innovative bilingual childcare with four mixed age groups, where fully qualified teachers, German and English-speakers, together with their assistants, provide a safe environment and a bilingual education through language immersion in each of the groups. We welcome children from 4 months until 5 years old in three baby and toddler groups and one pre-Kindergarten group.
Throughout the day, one teacher speaks only English, while the other one only German. Both of them lead activities that help the children enhance their language skills in a natural way, without any pressure. Immersion has been proven to be less confusing than translation-based curriculums, which are more appropriate for adult learners. In addition, in full foreign language immersion programs, children have the opportunity to pro-actively use and rehearse foreign languages in a challenging, intimate, emotionally supportive environment that stimulates all of their senses.
KiddieLand offers children a program that meets the international norms, complies with the local standards and is aligned with kibesuisse – The Swiss Childcare Association, which it is also a member of.
Our Early Childhood Educators are always focused on the children’s interests and lives. We consider that the learning environment is a major part of our curriculum and our materials are constantly updated to keep children interested. Our program is designed to encourage curiosity, exploration and problem solving in an atmosphere of warmth, affection and respect for each child. Our emergent curriculum is based on the Reggio Emilia Approach, which encourages teachers and students to plan together.
The Reggio Emilia Approach is widely considered to represent the best early childhood practices. Teachers respect the children and their emergent abilities by planning activities, which are open-ended and developmentally appropriate. Teachers are at the child’s eye level as much as possible and act as interested observers of children at work and play. This curriculum incorporates many of the most positive elements from Malaguzzi, Erikson, Piaget, Montessori, Vygotski, Gardner and other classical and contemporary leading theorists. We offer interesting language, math and science, arts and crafts, music and movement and cooking activities.
KiddieLand offers a big space to play and learn. Our freshly renovated location covers over 520 square meters and is easily accessible by car, tram, train or bus. With two elevators, parents have access into our facility from outside or directly from the underground parking lot. Key cards govern access into our facility. Our classrooms are bright, spacious and designed with children in mind. Some of our walls are illustrated with large paintings that come to life, while the rest are canvasses for our educators and their little students. Our largest classroom is almost 90 square meters and is designed as an indoor playground. Much of our furniture is made by Pro-Spiel, whose focus on quality speaks for itself. To offer the highest quality meals and snacks to children and staff, we have fitted our facility with a gastronomic kitchen.
We offer morning and afternoon snacks, as well as a homemade meal at lunch, based on Bio and locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. KiddieLand has close relationships with local farmers who provide a variety of fresh produce, meats and dairy, on a regular basis. Our cook ensures that the meals are healthy, nutritious and most of all tasty.
Outdoor Fun at KiddieLand:
We encourage our students to explore the world around them. KiddieLand is located only 200 m from The Wipkingen Adventure Playground, where the children can have many and diverse out door activities. Adjacent to the park, is a small farm, where children can learn about the wonderful world of domestic animals: http://www.gz-zh.ch/gz-wipkingen/gz-wipkingen/
Our staff members plan ahead and inform parents about trips to the Forest, Zoo, Library, Movies, Theater, Museums, or Botanical Gardens. We periodically organize visits to retirement homes or other places, where children can bring joy to people in need.
KiddieLand Opening Times
We are open Monday through Friday, between 7:00 and 18:30, with the exception of Zurich public holidays. We are closed for one week, between Christmas and New Year, and one week in August, for teacher preparation time and workshops.

“KiddieLand is a modern, vibrant place for young learners. The staff are caring, innovative and tireless. After only one week my son was settled into positive routines and was clearly enjoying his time there. The staff were able to show they knew my son intimately: his likes, dislikes and capabilities. They set high standards and challenging activities to which he responded very positively. Informal verbal feedback at the end of each day was detailed and spontaneous. It gave me a really good idea of what my son had being doing and how he was progressing. I would recommend KiddieLand to anyone, I think it is a great place for young children to go to learn and to enjoy.”
– Andrew Joyce-Gibbons – Lecturer at Durham University
“KiddieLand really is an amazing place. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and caring. My son has been so well taken care of; he immediately was comfortable and happy at KiddieLand. I can’t imagine that any child could ever be bored here, there is so much space to play and explore and the staff is innovative in their approach to learning and childcare. I couldn’t recommend KiddieLand more highly!”
– Rachel Joyce-Gibbons – Mommy of Isidor
“Man sollte daher so früh wie möglich zumindest mit einer bilingualen Erziehung anfagen, denn Babies lernen Sprachen sobald sie geboren werden, auch wenn sie noch nicht sprechen können.
Eine gute bilinguale Kinderkrippe zu finden ist nicht einfach. Ich habe eine Weile gesucht und eine für mich ideale bilinguale Kinderkrippe gefunden: KiddieLand”.
