This summer we visited the United Nations in Geneva to attend the Youth Summit on Children’s Human Rights, a parallel event to the 32nd Human Rights Council. This was organized and hosted by Ariel Foundation International and the Ariana-Leilani Children’s Foundation International.
Twenty two children were involved and Dr. King and Dr. McVarish (from CBeebies) called us “delegates”, making us feel very proud to represent the UK.
We shared our presentations and discussed what violence meant to us. This made us think about life in a different way. They recorded our opinions on an iPAD and will play them to the whole UN!
The UN was amazing, especially the XX Room where the Human Rights Council was meeting that day. The ceiling of the room had lots of colourful stalactites hanging down! Outside, there were rows of tall flags.
The world can be a scary, unsafe place and we realized that we are very lucky. Some of the stories were sad, but we’re happy that people are making a difference!
